Renovo shifts to self-driving and obtains test permit after electric DeLorean autonomous donut stunt

We forgot about Renovo until this week. You might remember the Silicon Valley-based startup for the all-electric coupe it was developing a few years back or more recently for the stunt they pulled with Stanford University where they converted a DeLorean with an electric powertrain and did autonomous donuts with it.

The company appears to have shifted to a focus on autonomous driving and they have now obtained a self-driving test permit in California.

Renovo Motors and Stanford built an electric DeLorean that can autonomously do donuts [video]

A team of engineers at Stanford University teamed up with Renovo Motors, the makers of a Corvette-like all-electric car, to build a self-driving electric DeLorean. The group unveiled the prototype yesterday, just before the day Marty McFly time-travels to in the “Back to the Future” film franchise, which popularized the DeLorean.
