BYD reveals tech-savvy 5-seat SUV interior with two massive 30-inch+ screens

BYD offered an early look at the third-generation Tang’s interior, its flagship “tech-savvy” five-seat electric SUV.

The third-generation Tang is set to go on sale later this year, joining the full-size Great Tang (Da Tang in China) as a smaller, five-seat flagship SUV.

Lu Tian, general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, which includes the Qin, Han, and Tang lineups, revealed the third-gen Tang’s interior for the first time.

The new cabin design draws inspiration from the control consoles of a sci-fi aircraft, Lu said, adding that it exudes “a strong sense of futurism.”

And that it does. Two massive screens sit at the center: a stretched-out 35.4″ integrated display and another 30″ panoramic screen that spans nearly the entire length of the dashboard.

As an “8-series, five-seat, tech-savvy flagship SUV,” Lu said, the third-gen Tang offers “a highly versatile space.” It will be available in two interior color schemes: Dune Beige and Amber Brown, each evoking a distinct, premium feel.

Like BYD’s other flagship models, the third-gen Tang features zero-gravity captain’s chairs in the second row. The five-seat SUV will provide over 1,000 mm of second-row legroom.

The third-generation Tang debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show in August. It’s equipped with BYD’s latest Blade Batteries 2.0 and Flash Charging technology, enabling it to charge from 10% to 70% in as little as 5 minutes.

It’s also packed with BYD’s premium tech, including its DiSus-A intelligent body control system with a dual-chamber air suspension, and its God’s Eye B advanced driving assistance system.

The five-seat SUV is 5,045 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,760 mm tall, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase.

It will be available with two battery packs: 88.682 kWh and 105.792 kWh, delivering CLTC ranges of 730 km (453 miles), 830 km (515 miles), and 850 km (528 miles), depending on the configuration.

BYD has yet to reveal prices, but given the full-size Great Tang starts at 239,900 yuan ($35,500), the five-seater will likely offer a lower-priced, smaller alternative.

Since launching the Great Tang in mid-June, BYD has sold over 10,000 units of the full-size SUV for three straight months. Will the third-gen Tang draw the same demand?
