BYD’s full-size flagship electric SUV is off to a strong early start, with more than 10,000 units sold in its first three months on the market.
BYD Great Tang sales reach 10,000+ for 3 months straight
The Great Tang is BYD’s first D-segment flagship SUV in the Dynasty series, the lineup’s largest and most high-end SUV.
After opening preorders at the Beijing Auto Show in April, BYD announced the luxury SUV received over 30,000 orders in its first 24 hours. In two weeks, preorders for the Great Tang reached over 100,000.
By the time it launched in China in mid-June, the Great Tang had secured over 150,000 preorders, marking a new record for a single BYD vehicle.
The flagship SUV boasts “29 world firsts,” BYD claims, including a pure electric driving range of up to 950 km (590 km) and China’s first 2+2+3 seven-seat configuration.
With another 13,010 sold in September, Great Tang sales have now exceeded 10,000 units for the third straight month since launch. Since it launched, BYD has sold 40,222 in total.

The flagship SUV is available in pure electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The base Premium EV version starts at 239,900 yuan ($35,500). All variants use BYD’s second-generation Blade Batteries.
While the base Premium model uses a 105.79 kWh battery, the Flagship EV trim uses a larger 130.15 kWh battery that delivers up to 590 miles (950 km) of CLTC range. It starts at 269,900 yuan ($40,000)

Based on a 1,000V architecture with BYD’s Flash Charging tech, the electric SUV can recharge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. To go from 10% to 97%, it takes just nine minutes.
The Great Tang is massive, measuring 5,263 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. That’s bigger than the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9. It’s about the size of the Li Auto L9.
After launching in China, BYD executive vice president Stella Li confirmed the flagship SUV will go on sale in Europe and other overseas markets by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
