Volkswagen launched the new ID. Buzz Cargo with a longer wheelbase, offering more space and updated software. Prices start at about $60,000, but a cheaper version will go on sale soon.
Volkswagen adds the longer ID. Buzz Cargo LWB
After Kia introduced the PV7, Volkswagen wasted no time adding a longer version of its electric work van.
While the standard ID. Buzz is for personal, everyday use, the Cargo version is designed for business. It’s similar to the Kia PV5 Passenger and Cargo models.
Volkswagen launched the new ID. Buzz with long wheelbase (LWB) on Wednesday, adding a bigger, more spacious option to the lineup.
The LWB version measures 4,962 mm in length with a 3,239 mm wheelbase that extends the interior length by 250 from the standard ID. Buzz. The extended length adds an additional 0.5 m3 of storage space in the load compartment.
To make loading and unloading easier, the longer ID. Buzz has a wood floor and a second sliding door as standard.
The door is also 19 cm wider, so a Euro pallet can now fit through the side. Buyers can opt for the optional rear-wing doors.
Depending on the configuration, the maximum payload is up to 700 kg for the rear-wheel drive (RWD) model and 606 kg for the all-wheel drive (AWD) version. Like the standard model, the ID. Buzz LWB is available as a two- or three-seater.
The longer ID. Buzz uses an 86 kWh battery, which is expected to provide a WLTP range of nearly 300 miles. The standard version has a 79 kWh battery, providing up to 277 miles of range.
With 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB delivers up to 250 kW (335 hp) combined with 4MOTION. That’s up from 210 kW (281 hp) in the standard version.
Like all new ID. Buzz models, the longer Cargo variant will be equipped with Volkswagen’s latest ID. software, including optional Travel Assist and one-pedal driving.
The new software also introduces vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities for the ID. Buzz Cargo, enabling it to be used as a mobile power source.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles opened pre-orders for the new ID. Buzz Cargo LWB with 250 kW and 4MOTION AWD on Wednesday, September 23, starting at €50,630, or about $58,000.
The RWD model will go on sale next week, starting at €48,490 ($55,000). In the UK, orders will open in early 2027 with an official launch planned for spring.
