BYD unveils its latest luxury EV with sleek fastback styling and 570 miles of range

BYD revealed the new Denza Z9S, a high-tech luxury electric sedan that can drive over 570 miles (920 km) on a single charge.

BYD Denza Z9S debuts as a new luxury EV sedan

BYD’s premium sub-brand, Denza, is welcoming a new member to the family. Denza unveiled the new Z9S on Friday, calling it a “technologically advanced luxury intelligent sedan.”

The electric sedan debuted in a new Dawn Purple color and a sleek fastback design. Up front, the Z9S features BYD’s new dual star-shaped headlights and a closed-off grille design.

Unlike the Denza Z9 GT, which is now on sale in Europe and China, the new Z9S trades the grand-tourer rear end for a fastback coupe silhouette.

Measuring 5,090 mm in width, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,025 mm, the sedan version is slightly smaller and shorter than the Z9 GT (5,180 mm L x 1,990 mm W x 1,500 mm H).

While full details have yet to be revealed, the electric sedan will feature BYD’s next-generation AI-powered Intelligent Cockpit. The system “not only listens, but understands you,” Denza said.

The Denza Z9S appeared in the batch of new energy vehicles approved for sale earlier this year, revealing several variants offering different power outputs.

A standard version is equipped with a single rear-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor rated at 429 hp (320 kW). Another single-motor version was listed with slightly more power at up to 496 hp (370 kW).

According to CarNewsChina, both are powered by a 102.326 kWh battery pack that delivers a CLTC range of up to 571 miles (920 km).

While it wasn’t listed in the regulatory filing, AutoHome, China’s largest online car-buying hub, lists a tri-motor Denza Z9S variant with nearly 1,200 hp (890 kW) combined.

The new “S” model comes after BYD launched the Denza Z at the Goodwood FOS a week ago. The Denza Z is the first electric supercar based on BYD’s e3 triple-motor platform. With a combined 1,582 hp and 914 lb-ft of torque, the Denza Z Racing model can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 1.96 seconds.

Denza announced earlier this week that demand for the new electric supercar is “booming,” with global pre-orders exceeding 1,000 in just days.

The Denza Z is available to pre-order in the UK starting at £142,900 ($192,000). In China, it starts at about half that, from 680,000 RMB ($100,000).
