BYD unveiled its new Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging system during its Disruptive Technology event on Thursday.

The new charging stations can deliver a whopping 1,500 kW of power, which BYD said enables vehicles to charge from 10% to 97% in just 9 minutes. Going from 10% to 70% takes only 5 minutes, making it essentially as quick as filling a gas tank.

At temperatures as low as 30°C (-20°F) for a full 24 hours, the new battery can still recharge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes, 3 minutes more than at room temp.

BYD even has the stations set up like a gas station, so vehicles can get in and out quickly since recharging is so fast.

By the end of 2026, BYD plans to deploy 20,000 Flash Charging stations across China. BYD announced the first batch of 11 models equipped with the new Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash charging will span across its Yangwang, Fang Cheng Bao, and Denza sub-brands, in addition to the Dynasty and Ocean lineups.

Among the vehicles launched at the event were the Seal 07 EV and Sealion 06, both equipped with the new batteries and charging system.

The Seal 07 EV is an electric sedan that’s about the size of the Toyota Camry. It’s available in two versions, priced at 169,900 yuan ($24,600) and 189,900 yuan ($27,500).

Powered by a 322-horsepower (240 kW) rear-mounted electric motor and a 69 kWh battery, the Seal 07 EV has a CLTC driving range of up to 705 km (438 miles).

BYD released a video showing the new Seal 07 EV with its second-gen Blade batteries and Flash Charging system in action at one of its stations.

The real-world charging test shows the Seal 07 EV recharge from 10% to 70% in 4 minutes and 51 seconds, just under the 5-minute mark. To reach 97%, it took just 8 minutes and 44 seconds.

While not shown in the video, the Sealion 06 EV was also launched at the event. The new electric SUV measures 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,695 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820, or about the size of a Tesla Model Y.

The Sealion 06 EV is available in four variants, priced from 159,900 yuan ($23,200) to 179,900 yuan ($26,000). It offers a CLTC range of 605 km (375 miles) or 710 km (441 miles), depending on the trim.
