Kia’s electric van really can do it all. VanLab delivered the first PV5 camping kit that transforms it into a campsite, remote workspace, and more in minutes. All you need is a screwdriver.
Vanlab introduces an affordable Kia PV5 camping kit
After launching the PV5 last year, Kia’s first fully electric van quickly earned global recognition for its futuristic design, efficiency, and all-around capability.
It was the first Korean vehicle to be named International Van of the Year, but the PV5 is much more than just another people mover.
The PV5 is available as a standard passenger van, cargo hauler, and even as an open-bed model (similar to a pickup), but its latest innovation is by far the coolest one yet.
Vanlab, a US startup that specializes in affordable, step-by-step campervan conversions, delivered the first conversion kit for the PV5 Passenger.
Like IKEA furniture, Vanlab’s conversion kits are designed to be assembled in minutes with just a screwdriver. The kit was launched in Korea as an official “Kia Collection” product and is available online through the Kia Shop website.

VanLab worked with Hyundai’s open innovation arm, Hyundai CRADLE Silicon Valley, and Kia to showcase how the kit can transform the PV5 into a full-on campsite, office, dining room, lounge, and more.
The kits include a full bed, an outdoor kitchen with an induction cooktop, drawers, and counter space for cooking. With Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities, Kia’s electric van can supply power to the electric hot plate and refrigerator.

The PV5 camper conversion kit is available in Korea for 2,990,000 won (just over $2,000). Vanlab said the kit will be available in Japan, Europe, and the UK shortly.
What about those in the US? Kia has yet to confirm whether the PV5 will launch in the US. However, a PV5 Passenger model was spotted in Ann Arbor, Michigan, earlier this month with side marker lights, a requirement in the US, hinting the electric van could still make its way to the States.
What do you think of the PV5 camper kit? Would you buy one for around $2,000 in the US? That’s pretty hard to pass up for a full-on electric camper van. Let’s hope Kia launches the PV5 in the US.
