Today, Airbnb announced a partnership with Tesla to install charging stations at some Airbnb host locations. Eligible Airbnb hosts will receive a free Tesla Wall Connector, but they will have to pay for the installation, which can cost between $200 and $900 according to Airbnb. The program is already in place in California with 9 locations equipped with charging stations (see picture below).
Airbnb expects the program to enhance the travelling experience of Tesla owners with the company.
They will use Tesla’s Wall Connector, a $750 home charging station, which, when paired with a Model S equipped with dual chargers, can charge the car at a rate of 58 miles of range per hour.
Tesla often partners with hotels and restaurants to install these chargers for free as long as they remain free to use for Model S owners. Airbnb warns potential hosts that as a Tesla charger owner, you can expect to pay ~$10 USD for a night’s charge of electricity.
These locations are part of Tesla’s “Destination Charging” program, which is meant for Model S owners to charge their car for a longer period of time, sometime overnight, once they arrived at their destination, hence the name of the program.
It looks like Airbnb locations are now a new part of the Destination Charging program.
If you are an Airbnb host and you want to apply for a Tesla charger, you can do so here. You need to already have had at least 5 bookings and maintain a star rating of 4+ to be eligible.
