Mercedes opens orders for the new GLC EV, the luxury brand’s most important vehicle

The luxury brand’s best-selling vehicle is now available in all-electric form. Mercedes-Benz considers the new GLC EV as its most important vehicle to date.

Mercedes GLC EV orders open across Europe, US next

Mercedes opened configurations online for the new electric GLC this week in nearly all European markets. In Germany, sales will open on October 29, with prices starting at 71,281 euros ($82,750).

Although that’s about 10,000 euros ($11,500) more than the current gas version, Mercedes is offering several ways to save, including monthly lease rates as low as 475 euros ($550).

The GLC EV is more expensive than the outgoing model, but it’s also bringing a host of upgrades. In addition to an all-electric powertrain, the electric SUV boasts more interior space than the gas version. It’s the same length, but thanks to an extended wheelbase, the EV variant offers 13 mm more legroom and 46 mm more headroom up front.

Rear passengers get an extra 47 mm of legroom and 17 mm more headroom. It also has 570 liters of boot space that can expand to 1,740 liters with the rear seats folded. And then there’s the frunk, adding an extra 128 liters.

The interior features the new MBUX Hyperscreen, Mercedes’ largest display, offering 33.1″ (99.3 cm) of screen space.

Although it shares a similar look with the gas version, the GLC EV debuts Mercedes’ new design, featuring a redesigned front grille and rear light bar.

Mercedes said the all-electric GLC complements its best-selling sibling. It will be available with three equipment packages: Advanced, Premium, and Premium Plus, offering added features such as an illuminated grille, a Burmester 3D or 4D surround-sound system, and massage seating.

The new electric SUV will be sold in five trims, starting with the GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ Technology. Mercedes said four more models will follow, including two in 2026.

Powered by a 94 kWh battery, the 400 4MATIC has an electric range of up to 715 km (445 miles). Thanks to its 800V platform, Mercedes said the electric GLC offers “best-in-class efficiency,” using just 14.9 kWh per 100 km.

It also boasts impressive charging speeds of up to 330 kW, enabling it to gain up to 303 km (188 miles) of range in just 10 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius has said the GLC is considered “the most important” vehicle in the luxury brands lineup. Will the electric version prove to be as big of a hit?

For those in the US, Mercedes is planning to launch the 2027 GLC EV soon. It’s expected to launch in early to mid-2026, offering over 350 miles of range.
