Mazda’s $20,000 EZ-6 EV is off to a hot sales start

Mazda selling EVs? That’s right. After launching the EZ-6 for around $20,000 in October, Mazda’s new EV is off to an impressive sales start in China.

Mazda’s $20,000 EV already has strong demand

Mazda officially launched the new EZ-6 electric sedan in China on October 26, 2024. Its price starts at just 139,800 yuan, or around $19,200.

The company’s Chinese joint venture, Changan Mazda, is already ramping up production after sales surged in its first full month.

Changan Mazda announced this week that 2,445 EZ-6 models were sold in November. The company claimed its new electric car was among the top three mid-size new energy vehicle (NEV) sedans of joint ventures sold in China in its first month listed.

Based on Changan’s hybrid platform, the electric sedan is offered in EV and extended-range (EREV) options. Mazda’s influence can be seen in its “Kodo-Soul of Motion” design, which is tailored to Chinese buyers.

At 4,921 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,485 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,895 mm, Mazda’s EZ-6 is slightly longer than a Tesla Model 3 (4,720 mm long, 1,922 mm wide, and 1,441 mm tall with a 2,875 mm wheelbase).

Mazda’s all-electric EZ-6 gets up to 600 km (372 miles) CLTC range with fast charging (30% to 80%) in 15 minutes. Two battery options, 56.1 and 68.81 kWh, are available. The former can travel up to 480 km (298 miles), while the latter is rated with 600 km (372 miles) CLTC range.

Seven EV and EREV models are offered, with prices ranging from 139,800 to 179,800 yuan ($19,200 to $24,700).
