Henrik Fisker released this week the first image of his new car concept after coming out of stealth mode earlier this month and announcing his new company with intentions to bringing to market an electric car achieving 400 miles of range by using supercapacitors.
Those familiar with the renowned car designer’s original attempt at entering the auto industry with his own car and not only his own design, the Fisker Karma, will quickly see some resemblances.
Just like its predecessor, it’s a large luxury sedan with a low profile.
Of course, the teaser highlights a big difference: the ‘butterfly doors’, which Fisker described as a “breakthrough”:

‘Butterfly’ doors or ‘scissor’ doors have been around for a while, so we are not sure what Fisker is referring to by calling them a “breakthrough”, but apparently we will know more next week.
As we reported earlier this month, Fisker says that his new car will be built with composite, carbon fiber and aluminum structure, but the most interesting claims are made about the powertrain.
Fisker is working with nanotech expert Jack Kavanaugh who licensed a hybrid supercapacitor technology developed by UCLA scientists. The new concept using graphene is said to have a much higher energy density than regular supercapacitors.
Kavanaugh and Fisker claim that the result is a battery pack capable of over 400 miles of range and that can be charged in minutes. Of course, we heard these claims about supercapacitors and graphene several times before. We will believe it when we see it. The ball is in your court Fisker.
