While Tesla employees don’t get a discount on the Model 3 (though they were given priority to reserve it), other companies are giving it for free to new recruits. Tesla’s upcoming $35,000 all-electric long-range sedan has yet to hit the market and it is already becoming the latest fashionable perk to try recruit new employees.
After a startup in Raleigh announced that it was giving Tesla Model 3’s to all its employees for free, now Seattle-based body camera maker, Axon, is joining the initiative and announced that it will give Tesla Model 3’s to new employees if they make it through their first 90 days at the company.
Axon is a division of TASER and its body cameras are used by police departments around the world. The company has dozens of positions opened on its website, but not all of them give you access to the free Model 3 perk.
The goal is obviously to try to attract more talent to the company in the increasingly competitive job market in Seattle. The Seattle Times wrote:
“Tech companies are flocking to Seattle from all over the world to take advantage of the technical talent in the area. But with headcount growing at entrenched leaders such as Amazon and Microsoft, as well as at startups, experts say there are far from enough tech workers in the area to go around.”
Current Axon employees can also receive a Model 3 if the company ends up hiring three people that they referred.
Axon plans to grow its 100-people workforce by 50% over the next year so the Model 3 might become even more popular in Seattle.
Though the vehicle is expected to go in production in late 2017 and if Axon is placing a reservation for new employees only 90 days after they join, they shouldn’t expect to get the Model 3 before at least late 2018 considering Tesla has about 400,000 reservations.
It’s an interesting perk for the company too since Axon will not have to spend money, aside for the $1,000 deposit, for potentially up to 2 years after recruiting a new employee.
