Tesla Model S becomes highest rated sedan on new ‘Amazon Vehicles’

Update: Since publishing this article on Saturday, the number of reviews significantly increased and the 2016 Tesla Model S is now the highest rated sedan of all-time – not just 2016.

Earlier this week, we reported on Amazon launching a new tool called ‘Amazon Vehicles’ to let people rate and review their vehicles. Amazon users were already able to review some models before, but they updated the list and it took just over a day after the official launch for the 2016 Tesla Model S to become the highest rated sedan.

Out of 194 ‘2016 sedans‘, the 2016 Model S comes out first with 21 5-star reviews. To be fair, it doesn’t look like Amazon implemented a way to verify that reviewers own the vehicle, but the same can be said of any other vehicle on the list. To give more credibility to their review, some users also posted pictures of their own vehicle.

Of course, reviewers are talking about the vehicle’s all-electric powertrain and its instant torque, but surprisingly, Tesla’s service is probably what is most mentioned by reviewers on the website.

Amazoner says:

“You have undoubtedly heard that it’s fast, quiet and high-tech. The service though blows Audi, MB, and BMW out of the water. Your car is always “talking” to Tesla via its onboard cellular connection (free for life of car). About 2 weeks after I got the car, I received an email from my service advisor asking me to call her. When I called her back she informed me that the car diagnosed a problem and signaled Tesla. They sent a “ranger” (basically a service center on wheels) to my garage in Manhattan to replace the part while I was at work. What service!”

Nsxdavid says:

“You’ve never had service like Tesla service! If I need anything done on my car, these guys will come out to my office or my home, pick up the car and bring it back later fixed. In between? No problem, they drop off another Tesla! On two occasions they fixed something right in the parking lot of my office.”

Amazon Vehicles allows users to only rate and review a vehicle based on its model year, which is not ideal for Tesla since it doesn’t necessarily update its vehicles on a yearly basis, but whenever a new feature is ready.

For the all-time rating, the 2016 Tesla Model S comes out second only to the 1998 Honda Accord out of 2,437 sedans. The 2014 Tesla Model S and 2015 Tesla Model S are also in the top 10.

For the 2016 SUVs, the Tesla Model X became the third highest-rated SUV with 15 5-star reviews. The 2016 Kia Sorento and the 2016 Nissan Rogue are first and second respectively.

With already thousands of reviews on the websites, Amazon might be onto something with its new tool for vehicle buyers. It currently doesn’t sell any vehicle through the website, but it suggests accessories compatible with each model. For example, it lists 532 products compatible with the 2016 Tesla Model S. Though considering it also suggests motor oil for the Model S, I would say that the tool is far from perfect.
