Too good to be true? Yes, probably, but that’s what a Tesla Model S owner on Craiglist is claiming. While we will have to disagree with the owner’s definition of “minor dents and dings”, it’s not impossible to imagine how this Model S would still be able to drive – though its salvage status is evidently still well-deserved.
Following what clearly looks like a severe rear-end accident, a Tesla owner listed his 2013 Model S 85 on Craiglist for $35,000 in Emeryville, California (Bay Area).
He wrote:
“Black 2013 Tesla Model S sedan (85 KWh battery) for sale works perfectly but has body damage.
Because of these minor dents and dings you can finally afford a Tesla!”
He shared a few pictures of the vehicle
While body damages are still clearly apparent and the vehicle has a ‘salvage’ title status, the owner claims that the Model S, which has ~90,000 miles to the odometer, was repaired following the accident and that it is still “perfectly legal to drive”:
“It was in a crash but has been repaired except for the obvious. The hatchback opens and closes and latches, and both taillights work, so it’s perfectly legal to drive. All the doors work, the airbags and seats and seatbelts are fine, and it drives perfectly!”
Salvaged Tesla Model S’s are fairly popular vehicles due to their valuable battery packs. Here you can get a 85 kWh pack for less per kWh than you would be paying for with a small Tesla Powerwall or Powerpack system – though of course, you will have to put in the work if you want to be able to do something with it.
In this case, the owner says that the price is not negotiable, but how much would you be willing to pay for it? Let us know what you would do with a salvaged Tesla Model S in the comment section below.
