We discussed Tesla Model X’s panoramic windshield before, more recently after learning about its replacement cost, but mainly about the fact that it offers great visibility, look and because we are glad to see Tesla bringing a panoramic windshield in a production car.
But it doesn’t only offer advantages, they are a few cons to a panoramic windshield – primarily the fact that it offers little protection against the sun.
It wasn’t too much of problem for a while since Tesla only started delivering the Model X late last year during the winter, but they anticipated it with the warm weather coming and now some people are noticing that it can become a problem.
There’s a soft gradient shade in the top half of the glass going over the driver and front passenger seats, but some complained that it is not enough when in direct sunlight. Tesla recently sent out an email to Model X owners to let them know they will be getting free sunshade.
The company describes to item:
“Front Upper Windshield Sunshade blocks two-thirds of light and heat coming through the front upper windshield. Easily removable, the sunshade is installed onto the interior of the windshield within seconds. When removed, the shade collapses and is stored in a pouch.”
