In a rare addition to its Model S online design studio, Tesla introduced new 19″ stock wheels called “Slipstream wheels”. The new rims are very similar to Tesla’s popular 21″ Turbine wheels, but now made standard in a smaller configuration.
It’s an interesting no cost option for people who liked the look of the 21″ Turbine wheels, but don’t necessarily care about the performance improvements.
The 21″ wheels are often preferred by many performance enthusiasts, but of course, 19″ wheels is also less difficult on tire life and range.
Though when taking the performance package, it is recommended to also add the $4,500 21″ wheel set.
Here’s a side by side of the 21″ and 19″ wheels:

Very nice! As beautiful as the upgraded 19s and 21s are, I’m happy to save the $2,500 – $4,500.
Any sense on how much of an aero improvement these are?
They don’t seem to be available in the store as an accessory for a second set of mounted tires yet. Hopefully soon…
Yeah, interesting, whats the improvement to range?
beautiful wheels, and I would guess more aerodynamics too.
Tough to see a difference by looking at two black vehicles. A lighter color may have provided a clearer view…
That really sucks that they dropped the regular 19″ wheels, they should have discontinued the cyclone wheels instead.
