Tesla plans to expand to Ireland later this year, says CEO Elon Musk

Tesla has been quickly expanding in Europe with only a few market left unpenetrated. In December 2015, the automaker officially launched in Scotland with its first store in Edinburgh, we now learn that Tesla is expanding to the other side of the Irish Sea, namely to Ireland.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed Tesla’s intention via Twitter yesterday. Alongside its electric vehicle business, Tesla Energy already announced a partnership with Gaelectric, a developer and operator of renewable energy projects, to develop a 1 MW utility-scale energy storage demonstration project powered by Tesla’s Powerpacks.

Ireland will be one of the rare markets where Tesla almost simultaneously enters with both its electric vehicle and stationary energy storage businesses.

As it is usually the case when Tesla expands to a new market, Irish people should be on the lookout for Supercharger stations and service center locations on the island.

Tesla also plans to expand to other markets this year. Tesla CEO Elon Musk and CTO JB Straubel were in Korea late last year to attend the Energy Korea Forum 2015 and they said that Tesla is “committed” to the South Korean market and that they see a “great potential” there.

They didn’t offer a concrete timeline on when the company plans to start selling cars in the country.

The company also started taking reservations for the Model S in Mexico late last year and plans to officially launch the vehicle in the country later in 2016.
