Volkswagen ID. Cross enters production
Volkswagen brand CEO Thomas Schäfer announced that the ID. Cross has entered series production at its Pamplona, Spain, plant.
The ID. Cross “opens its electric chapter,” Schäfer said, joining its gas-powered equivalent, the T-Cross, and the Skoda Epiq at Volkswagen Navarra.
Volkswagen invested heavily to upgrade the facility for producing electric vehicles, including the ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq.
The ID. Cross is “a true Volkswagen,” according to Schäfer, as a “modern, reliable, and above all, affordable” electric SUV. VW’s CEO said “electric mobility should not be a promise for a few. It should be a real choice for many.”
As the first SUV from its new family of smaller, entry-level EVs, and an electric equivalent to its best-selling T-Cross, the ID. Cross is expected to play a key role as Volkswagen revamps its lineup to compete with Tesla and Chinese automakers like BYD.
Volkswagen opened orders for the ID. Cross in July, starting at €36,525 in Germany, or around $42,000. Next month, it will launch the lower-priced Trend model, starting at €27,995 or roughly $32,000.
It’s available with two battery packs: a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack and a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) pack, providing a WLTP range of up to 427 km (265 miles).
The electric SUV is based on the same MEB+ platform as the ID. Polo and is offered in three output levels and trims :

optional with 155 kW (207 hp) and 52‑kWh battery
With DC fast charging up to 90 kW, the 37-kWh battery can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 23 minutes. The 52 kWh battery takes around 24 minutes with DC fast charging of up to 105 kW.
Inside, the ID. Cross adopts Volkswagen’s new digital cockpit. The setup includes a 10.25″ “Digital Cockpit Pro” instrument display and a 12.9″ center infotainment screen.
Like the ID. Polo, the electric SUV features a new Retro Display mode that transforms the instrument panel into a throwback theme reminiscent of the first-gen Golf 1.
Measuring 4,161 mm long, 1,794 mm wide, and 1,588 mm high, with a 2,601 mm wheelbase, the ID. Cross is about the size of the current Volkswagen T-Cross.
Thanks to a flat battery pack and floor design, the electric ID. Cross offers up to 475 liters of interior storage space, 20 liters more than the T-Cross.
In Germany, the ID. Cross starts at €36,525 ($42,000), including VAT, and sits between the T-Cross (€25,280) and Tiguan (€39,385) in price.
Volkswagen said the standard ID. Cross Trend with 85 kW output and a 37 kWh battery will go on sale in mid-October, with prices starting at €27,995 ($32,000), or slightly more than the ID. Polo (€24,995).
