BYD opens Denza Z9S pre-orders, claiming the ‘world’s longest’ EV range at 1,100 km

BYD opened pre-orders for the new Denza Z9S in China, touting what it calls “the world’s longest pure electric range” of 1,100 km (683 mi), with prices starting under $50,000.

After launching the Denza Z9 GT earlier this year, BYD claimed it boasted the longest pure-electric driving range of any mass-produced EV, with a CLTC range of up to 1,036 km (644 miles).

The new Denza Z9S trades the grand tourer rear end for a more aerodynamic fastback silhouette. Denza calls it a “technologically advanced luxury intelligent sedan” with some of BYD’s most advanced tech.

Denza opened pre-orders for the Z9S on Monday, once again claiming it boasts “the world’s longest pure electric range of 1,100 km.”

The new “S” model is available in three variants, delivering CLTC ranges of 780 km (484 mi), 920 km (571 mi), and 1,100 km (683 mi).

The base Premium model starts at 319,800 yuan ($47,300), the Flagship version starts at 349,800 yuan ($51,800), and the tri-motor Performance variants cost 389,900 yuan ($57,700).

All are powered by the same 102.3 kWh BYD Blade Battery 2.0. They are also all equipped with its Flash Charging technology, enabling the Denza Z9S to recharge from 10% to 70% in as little as 5 minutes. For a full recharge, or to go from 10% to 97%, it takes just 9 minutes.

It’s available in single- and tri-motor configurations. The single-motor variant uses a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 370 kW (496 hp), while the tri-motor version delivers a combined 890 kW (1,200 hp).

Measuring 5,090 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,025 mm, the Denza Z9S is slightly smaller and shorter than the Z9 GT (5,180 mm L x 1,990 mm W x 1,500 mm H).

Inside, the luxury sedan features BYD’s updated cabin design with a three-spoke steering wheel, large floating center infotainment screen, a slim instrument cluster, and physical buttons below the center console.

There are also two 13″ entertainment screens for rear passengers, plus a seat control screen in the rear center armrest. The seats are redesigned with new headrests and a diamond-pattern design.

Like many new BYD luxury vehicles, the Denza Z9S is equipped with the DiSus-A Intelligent Body Control System and God’s Eye 5.0 ADAS.

The new sedan is the latest model in Denza’s growing lineup. BYD’s luxury brand launched the Denza Z9 GT in Europe and China. Most recently, it launched the Denza Z electric hypercar at the Goodwood FOS in the UK last month.

The Denza Z is available to pre-order in the UK starting at £142,900 ($192,000). In China, it starts at 680,000 RMB ($100,000).
