The BMW iX5 sets the benchmark with 525 miles of range, fast charging [Images]

BMW revealed the new X5 on Tuesday, including the first all-electric iX5. The iX5 adopts the Neue Klasse style and tech with an impressive range of up to 525 miles on a single charge.

For its fifth generation, the new M5 will be available in five powertrain options, including, for the first time, a battery-electric option.

Following the iX3 SUV and i3 sedan, the new BMW iX5 is bringing a new look and BMW’s latest Neue Klasse technology.

While we got a sneak peek at it earlier this week after images leaked online, BMW officially unveiled the iX5 on Tuesday.

The 2027 BMW iX5 60 xDrive uses BMW’s sixth-generation (Gen6) eDrive system with an 800V architecture, delivering impressive efficiency, charging speeds, and driving range.

In Europe, it’s powered by a massive 141 kWh battery, providing a WLTP range of up to 525 miles (750 km). While EPA estimates have yet to be finalized, BMW expects the 2027 iX5 60 xDrive, with a slightly larger (144 kWh) battery, will offer a range of around 435 miles.

The electric SUV is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain, delivering a combined 578 hp (425 kW) and 805 Nm of torque.

With DC fast charging power of up to 460 kW, the iX5 can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 23 minutes.

The exterior design looks similar to the iX3 and i3 with the Neue Klasse style, but the iX5 has several distinct elements that set it apart, including the new “Double-X” headlights.

Inside, the interior features BMW’s Neue Klasse design with the new Panoramic iDrive display at the center. The BMW Passenger Display, 3D Head-Up Display, and Panoramic Vision, which spans the length of the dash, are optional extras.

The iX5 is BMW’s first all-electric vehicle assembled in the US. Assembly is set to begin at BMW Plant Spartanburg by the end of the year.

BMW will reveal prices soon, but given the 2027 iX3 50 xDrive starts at $61,500 in the US, the iX5 will likely be priced closer to $75,000. In Europe, the iX3 50 xDrive is priced from €73,925 ($85,200), with a WLTP driving range of up to 805 km (500 miles).

The X5 has already become a global bestseller. However, BMW’s development boss, Dr Joachim Post, said that with Neue Klasse tech, the new model, including the iX5, “will set the benchmark in its class once again and write the next chapter in its success story.”

The new BMW X5 will go on sale in late November, followed by the electric and plug-in hybrid versions in early 2027.
