Honda is recalling nearly 60,000 electric SUVs

The Prologue was once among the top-selling EVs in the US, but Honda’s electric SUV has lost a bit of its luster. To make matters worse, Honda is now issuing a recall impacting almost 60,000 Prologue and Acura ZDX vehicles.

Honda recalls Prologue EV, and Acura ZDX electric SUVs

After introducing the Prologue in March 2024, Honda’s first all-electric SUV quietly became a surprise hit. In the second half of the year, it was the third best-selling EV behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3.

In 2025, the Honda Prologue was the sixth-most popular electric vehicle in the US. Last year, it ranked number 11.

With new competition, including the Chevy Equinox EV, the upgraded Hyundai IONIQ 5, and the Toyota bZ, Honda’s electric SUV has quickly fallen out of favor.

Sales are down over 55% so far this year, and to top it off, Honda issued a recall affecting close to 60,000 Prologue and Acura ZDX vehicles, both of which are built on GM’s Ultium platform.

In a letter sent to the NHTSA on Wednesday, Honda said certain 2024 and 2025 models may have a faulty rearview camera system that shows a blank or distorted image.

The recall involves 59,887 vehicles in total, including 14,688 Acura ZDX and 44,199 Honda Prologue models. Honda estimates only 5% of them actually have the defect, but issued the recall as a safety precaution.

How can you get the fix? Honda said dealers will replace the rearview camera for free. Owners can expect notification letters to be mailed out on July 6, 2026.

In the meantime, you can call Honda’s customer service at 1-888-234-2138 with questions or concerns. Honda’s recall numbers are DO5 and DO6. You can also contact the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit NHTSA.gov for more information. The NHTSA campaign number is 26V306.

While the recall impacts 2024 and 2025 models, Honda fixed the issue with the latest 2026 Prologue. The Prologue is now the only EV that Honda sells in the US after pulling the Acura ZDX and abandoning plans for the upcoming 0 Series models and Acura RSX.

While it’s still on sale, Honda cut prices on the 2026 Prologue by $7,500. The 2026 Honda Prologue now starts at under $40,000 with 308 miles of range. Honda is currently offering monthly leases starting at $269. You can click here to view local offers and find available 2026 Honda Prologue models at a dealership near you (trusted affiliate link).
