bp pulse is building Australia’s first airport-scale EV charging hub

bp pulse has broken ground on its first large-scale EV charging hub in Australia – and it’s landing in a high-traffic spot: Melbourne Airport.

The site will feature 24 charging bays and is scheduled to open in 2026. Once it’s up and running, it’ll offer both 150 kW and 300 kW chargers, along with two accessible bays and drive-through bays designed for larger vehicles.

That mix matters. The hub will support everyone from locals and fleets to travelers on tight schedules. And with around 34,000 vehicles passing through Melbourne Airport every day, there’s a clear need for fast, reliable charging in the area.

The hub will sit at the corner of Airport Drive and Francis Briggs Road, within the airport precinct. bp pulse is also adding the basic amenities of a bathroom and a canopy.

The location also gives rideshare drivers an incentive to plug in. Uber drivers who have switched to EVs will be able to access bp pulse’s Uber EV charging discount.

Melbourne Airport chief of ground transport, property and retail, Jai McDermott, said, “Not only will this be the first of its scale at an Australian airport, but we’re proud that bp pulse has chosen to power the hub with 100% renewable electricity generated from Melbourne Airport’s two onsite solar farms.”
