Kia reveals EV2 prices are cheaper than expected

Kia revealed EV2 prices and final specs as orders are now officially open in Europe. The EV2 is cheaper than expected, with prices starting at just €26,600 ($30,500).

Kia opens EV2 orders at lower prices than expected

“With the Kia EV2, we are adding a very important and highly attractive entry-level model to our extensive electric vehicle range,” Kia Germany’s managing director, Thomas Djuren, said.

Measuring just over 4,000 mm (160″) in length, the entry-level EV is even smaller than the Volkswagen ID.3 (or Chevy Bolt EV for those in the US), but Kia promises it won’t feel like it when you’re inside.

Orders are now open in Germany, starting at just €26,600 ($30,500), which is below the expected €30,000 ($35,000). Kia is offering leases as low as €239 ($275) per month.

The EV2 is available in four variants: Light, Air, Earth, and GT-Line. Buyers can choose from two battery pack options: 42.2 kWh and 61 kWh, providing best-in-class WLTP ranges of up to 197 miles (317 km) and 281 miles (453 km), respectively.

Like the EV3, Kia’s new entry-level EV is based on the same E-GMP platform as its other electric vehicles, but with a 400V architecture to cut costs. With up to 118 kW DC fast charging, the EV2 can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes.

The interior features two versions of Kia’s latest ccNC infotainment system. The triple-screen setup, featuring dual 12.3″ driver-cluster and touchscreen infotainment screens, plus an additional 5.3″ climate-control display, is available as an option with the Air trim.

A new “Lite” version is included as standard with the same display setup and many functions, but it does not include built-in navigation.

Thanks to apps like Google Maps, drivers will still be able to connect their smartphones to use navigation on the infotainment screen.

Despite being the smallest EV in its lineup, the EV2’s 2,565 mm wheelbase and flat floor design enable a flexible, surprisingly spacious interior. With segment-leading rear passenger legroom of up to 958 mm, it offers nearly as much legroom as the Soul SUV.

In addition to the standard, five-seat configuration with a rear seat bench, Kia offers a four-seat setup with two individual rear seats. The interior configuration is available on the Earth trim or higher.

The EV2 is “fully connected” with integrated EV Route Planning through Kia Charge, Plug & Charge capabilities, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

In the UK city streets around where I live it is 99% on-street parking and most people have a car this size. The smaller battery can be topped up 50-80 in about 6.5 hours using the 1.9kW granny charger (UK is 3kW mains) so I think the extra interior space, high equipment spec and hopefully around £24k starting price will mean this will sell extremely well.

With bidirectional charging, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), the electric car can act as a mobile power source or feed energy back into the grid to save on energy costs.

The EV2 is the second electric vehicle built at Kia’s Žilina plant in Slovakia, following the EV4. The Air and Earth models will be the first to be delivered to customers, starting in April. From July, all variants, including the larger battery and GT-Line models, will be available.

Positioned below the EV3, which has quickly become a top-seller in Europe, the EV2 will compete with low-cost Chinese brands like BYD and upcoming entry-level electric cars like the Volkswagen ID. Polo.

For those in the US, the EV2 is (sadly) another electric car we will never get to see. Kia has already delayed several EVs indefinitely due to the Trump Administration’s policy changes. The EV2 is designed for European buyers.
