Kia’s electric hot hatch or fastback: Which EV are you buying? [Images]

The Kia EV4 is available as a hatchback and fastback, both of which are due for a GT upgrade. Which one would you choose?

Kia launches the EV4 as a hot hatch and fastback

Kia unveiled the EV4 GT earlier this year at the Brussels Motor Show, alongside the EV3 GT and EV5 GT, both electric SUVs.

The EV4 stands out as Kia’s first electric hatchback, but it’s also sold as a fastback (sedan) in Korea, Europe, and other overseas markets.

While the hatch is built at Kia’s plant in Slovakia and designed for European buyers, the sedan version is produced in Korea.

After launching the EV4 GT in Korea last month at 55.17 million won ($38,000), a few camouflaged prototypes have been spotted on public roads. The new images from ShortsCar offer a closer look at an uncovered model parked in a Korean lot.

The performance variant looks nearly identical to the EV4 GT-line, but with the GT-exclusive 20″ wheels, bright neon green brake calipers, and a sportier front bumper.

Inside, you will find the biggest differences: semi-bucket sport seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, a GT-mode interface, and other GT-exclusive elements.

Like the Hyundai IONIQ 5, the EV4 GT is packed with fun features and extras, such as a Virtual Gear Shifter and an Active Sound System (e-ASD) that replicates the sounds and jerkiness of a traditional internal combustion engine sports car.

Like Kia’s other electric GT vehicles, the EV4 GT is equipped with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain, delivering a combined 215 kW (288 hp) and a maximum torque of 468 Nm (345 lb-ft).

Powered by an 81.4 kWh battery, Kia said the EV4 GT can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.6 seconds.

The EV4 GT fastback looks about the same as the hatchback (shown above), outside of the obvious sloping roofline. As the reporter in the video points out, yes, mid-50 million won ($38,000) is a fair price for a “performance EV,” but with so many other options, it doesn’t necessarily stand out.

With pre-orders now open in Korea, Kia is expected to launch the EV4 GT in Europe and other global markets later this year. Production is scheduled to begin in Q2 2026.
