BYD’s new electric SUV delivers over 440 miles range for just $26,000

The Song Ultra EV is the first B-segment electric SUV under BYD’s Dynasty lineup. BYD’s new EV SUV offers over 440 miles (710 km) of driving range, and it only costs $26,000.

When is BYD launching the Song Ultra EV?

Earlier this month, Lu Tian, head of sales for BYD’s Dynasty series, confirmed the Song Ultra EV was coming soon.

Lu previewed the new model for the first time in a blurred image posted on Weibo, calling it the Dynasty lineup’s first B-segment fully electric SUV.

While no other details were offered, the Song Ultra EV was included in China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) regulatory approval catalog released last month.

The regulatory filing revealed measurements of 4,850 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm, making it slightly larger than the Song L DM-i PHEV at 4,780 mm in length, 1,898 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height.

While prices for the BYD Song Ultra EV are expected to start at around 220,000-260,000 yuan ($31,900-$37,600), Chinese media outlet Autohome claims it will be priced around 180,000 yuan ($26,000), citing “relevant channels.”

The new crossover SUV will be equipped with a single front-mounted electric motor delivering a maximum output of 362 hp (270 kW).

It will reportedly be available with two battery pack options, 75.616 kWh and 82.73 kWh, offering a CLTC driving range of 385 miles (620 km) and 441 miles (710 km), respectively.

Another thing worth pointing out is that the images posted by Lu show a roof-mounted LiDAR system, suggesting it will likely feature BYD’s “God’s Eye B” advanced driver-assistance system. The smart driving system is a mid-tier ADAS offering features like Level 3 highway and city driving and automated parking.

BYD is expected to launch the Song Ultra EV by the end of 2026. Check back soon for more updates.
