The new electric SUV is now rolling off the production line at Subaru’s Gunma Yajima Plant, the first time an EV has been made at the facility.
The Trailseeker is Subaru’s first EV made in-house
After renovations began last August to upgrade the production lines, Subaru built its first in-house EV at the facility this week.
The Trailseeker, which will be called the e-Outback in some European markets, is Subaru’s second global electric SUV following the Solterra.
Unlike the Solterra, the Trailseeker is produced at Subaru’s own facility in Japan. The Solterra is built at a Toyota-owned facility.
While the electric SUV is made in-house, Toyota still has a hand in it. The Trailseeker is co-developed with Toyota and built on a modified version of its e-TNGA platform.
The Trailseeker is a bigger, more powerful electric SUV than the Solterra, similar to the Toyota bZ Woodland. With a length of 190.6″ (4,841 mm) and a height of 65.9″ (1,674 m), the Trailseeker is about 6″ longer than the Solterra and 1″ taller.

It also offers more interior space with up to 32.2 cubic feet of cargo room in the rear. In comparison, the Solterra provides up to 23.8 cubic feet.
Subaru calls it a “go-anywhere, rugged SUV” with its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system delivering a combined 375 horsepower.
The added power and instant torque enable it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, making it the fastest production Subaru vehicle sold in the US.

Subaru said the new electric SUV “offers versatile options for hauling people and gear to the trailhead, and beyond,” with a 3,500-lb towing capacity and a 700-lb load capacity on the raised roof rails.
The Trailseeker is powered by a 74.7 kWh battery, providing an estimated driving range of 280 miles. Like the new Toyota bZ and Solterra, the Trailseeker has a built-in NACS port to recharge at Tesla’s vast Supercharger network.
Subaru said with charging speeds of up to 150 kW, the electric SUV can recharge to 80% in as little as 28 minutes.

To stand out, the Trailseeker features a revamped design inside and out, including a new six-star illuminated logo up front and an illuminated SUBARU logo at the rear.
The interior features a standard 14″ touchscreen, the largest of any Subaru vehicle, that includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In the US, the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker will be available in three trims: Premium, Limited, and Touring, with prices starting at $39,995.
Upgrading to the Limited trim, priced from $43,995, gains a premium Harman Kardon speaker system, panoramic view monitor, 20″ aluminum alloy wheels, heated rear seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, power rear gate with hands-free kick sensor, digital key, and a 120-volt AC power outlet in the rear cargo area.
| 2026 Subaru Trailseeker trim | Starting Price* |
| Trailseeker Premium | $39,995 |
| Trailseeker Limited | $43,995 |
| Trailseeker Touring | $46,555 |
For $46,555, the Trailseeker Touring adds a gloss-black hood accent, a panoramic glass roof with motorized shade, ventilated front seats and radiant leg warmers, and optional two-tone paint.
With series production now underway, 2026 Trailseeker models will be arriving at US dealerships any day now. Subaru said it will begin hitting dealerships in early 2026.
The Trailseeker isn’t the only electric SUV Subaru is launching in early 2026. The 2026 Uncharted is set to arrive this Spring, starting at $34,995 with over 300 miles of driving range.
With the new Trailseeker and Uncharted SUVs on their way, Subaru is discounting 2026 Solterra models to clear room. The Solterra is on sale with 0% APR financing for 75 months and leases starting under $300 a month. You can use the links below to find available models near you.
