Hyundai shows off the ultimate EV camper with solar power, a kitchen, and few other goodies

Hyundai unveiled an all-electric camper van with solar panels for off-grid adventures. It even has a kitchen, smart features, and plenty more for extended stays.

Meet the Hyundai Staria Camper EV Concept

Just over a week after it revealed the Staria Electric, its first fully electric MPV, Hyundai showcased a new camper variant at the CMT trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany.

The camper concept is based on the same underpinnings as the Staria Electric, delivering an estimated WLTP driving range of up to 400 km (249 miles). Hyundai said its long-range capabilities, which rank among the best among electric MPVs, are the perfect foundation for a premium electric camper.

It also shares the same 800-volt high-voltage platform as the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and IONIQ 9, meaning it can recharge from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes via DC fast charging.

Although it uses the same 160 kW (215 hp) front-mounted electric motor as the Staria EV, Hyundai fine-tuned the front and rear suspension and added sound-absorbing materials to make the trip more comfortable and nearly silent.

At the push of a button, the pop-off roof opens to expand the interior living space and provides access to the kitchen area.

The Staria Camper is built for those looking to go beyond the typical campsite with a 520W solar panel integrated into the pop-up roof.

With an average of 5 hours of sunlight each day, Hyundai said the setup can generate up to 2.6 kWh of electricity. The stored energy can then be used to extend the driving range or for off-grid adventures. For extended trips, Hyundai’s EV camper includes a 36-liter refrigerator, a portable showerhead, and a cabin climate-control system.

And that’s not all. The Staria Camper features smart glass in the back that you can control through a dedicated touchscreen. You can adjust the transparency and shading to control how much light and UV shine through.

The EV camper sounds like the one we’ve been waiting for, but will we ever actually see it? Hyundai said the Staria Electric Camper Concept will be “under evaluation” during the 2026 CMT. If the concept receives approval, Hyundai will provide more details in due time.

If you’re visiting the event, you can take Hyundai’s online survey to help determine whether the concept goes into production.

What about those in the US? I wouldn’t get my hopes up. The gas-powered Staria is not sold in the US, and Hyundai said the concept is tailored to European buyers.
