The electric Bronco is real, and it might be Ford’s coolest EV yet. With the new electric SUV now on sale in China, Ford is showing off a few extra goodies it’s giving early buyers, including a roof tent for camping.
The electric Ford Bronco is real, but only in China
After opening blind pre-orders for the new electric Bronco at the Guanzhou Auto Show on October 1, Ford said the new EV was its first car built for camping and other adventures.
Buyers can reserve the new electric Bronco in China for a 1,000 yuan ($140) deposit. For a limited time, Ford is throwing in a few added perks, including a “Roof Camping Package” that essentially turns it into a mobile camper.
The package typically costs 12,000 yuan ($1,700) and includes a pop-up “Super” roof, a “full-size” inflatable mattress, and seats that fold into the floor with the touch of a button.
Unlike most pop-up systems, you can lift the roof by simply pressing a button on the infotainment screen. And then there’s the camping kitchen tailgate. The setup offers a table, a magnetic strip to hold knives, a bottle opener, and more.
Sounds pretty cool, yeah? Too bad it’s only available in China. The electric Bronco is built by Ford’s joint venture partner, Jiangling Motors (JMC), and sold exclusively in China. At least, for now.
It’s available for pre-order in both all-electric (EV) and range-extended electric vehicle (EREV) variants. Ford will officially launch the new Bronco EV by the end of the year.
Although it looks nearly identical to the Bronco we see in the US, Europe, and other regions, what’s under the “hood,” or frunk, is an entirely different setup.
The electric Bronco is equipped with two electric motors, one in the front and the other in the rear, for a combined output of 445 horsepower (332 kW). It also draws power from a 105.4 kWh LFP battery from BYD’s FinDreams, providing a CLTC range of 650 km (404 miles).
Measuring 5,025 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,815 mm in height, the EV is slightly bigger than the standard 4-door model sold in the US.
It also includes Ford Fuyu, an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) developed specifically for buyers in China. The system consists of a roof-mounted LiDAR and over 30 sensors and cameras.

no need for stainless steel or "bullet-proof" windows, just a reasonably priced, 350+ mile range off-road capable mini-SUV.
The Bronco EV features an “Off-road Logbook,” which includes over 20 popular routes across China, allowing you to plan your trip.
Ford has yet to announce prices, but we can expect to find out soon, with an official launch expected by the end of the year in China.
