Hyundai’s all-electric IONIQ 5 SUV set a new sales record in the US last month, driving the brand to its best-ever October performance. With the upgraded 2025 model just around the corner, Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 continues to exceed expectations.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 tops expectations with upgrades coming
Hyundai Motor America sold 71,802 vehicles last month, up 18% from last year and its highest October sales total ever.
The achievement comes as sister company Kia also reported its highest-ever October sales total in the US on Friday.
With a record 4,498 IONIQ 5 models sold, up 51% YOY, Hyundai’s electric SUV set a new October sales record. Hyundai has now sold 34,816 IONIQ 5s in the US through the first ten months of 2024, an increase of 23%.
Hyundai’s other dedicated EV, the IONIQ 6, didn’t fare as well, with only 837 units sold last month. Despite this, IONIQ 6 sales are still up 4% from last year, with 9,934 models sold through October.
Hyundai’s electric SUV is seeing higher demand even after the upgraded 2025 IONIQ 5 was revealed in September.
The refreshed model is an improvement in every way, with more driving range, a sleek new design, and a new XRT trim. It even has an NACS port to access Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network.
After kicking off production at its massive new Metaplant America (HMGMA) last month, deliveries of the new model are just around the corner. The 2025 IONIQ 5 was the first vehicle built at the facility. Hyundai said US-made EVs will initially qualify for a partial $3,750 tax credit.
2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 powertrain | Trim | 2024MY Range | New Range (Targeted) |

RWD | SE/ SEL/ Limited Se Standard Range | 303 miles 220 miles | +310 miles +240 miles |
However, once the battery portion opens next year, the company expects them to qualify for the full $7,500.
