Einride partners with PepsiCo to deploy its electric trucks and reduce tons of annual emissions

Commercial freight EV and autonomous driving developer Einride announced a new partnership with PepsiCo to deploy its electric semi trucks in Tennessee. The trucks will transport goods for the multinational food, snack, and beverage corporation, which includes Frito Lay.

Einride is no stranger to Electrek’s commercial EV coverage. We’ve been following the sustainable freight mobility specialist for six years now and have witnessed its rise to prominence as one of the leaders in scalable electric semi trucks, digitally connected fleets, and autonomous and remote driving operations. We even had Einride’s VP of Energy & Charging for North America on the Quick Charge Podcast over the summer.

During its tenure, Einride has expanded its sustainable fleet technologies throughout Europe, the US, and most recently, the Middle East, securing partnerships with major corporations like DP World, Heineken, and GE Appliances to name a few.

In April of 2023, Einride announced a new partnership with PepsiCo to deploy its electric trucks across 750,000 miles of routes in the UK. This morning, Einride announced a new partnership with PepsiCo it has established stateside, which includes more electric trucks that will aid in the distribution of the latter’s food and beverage in the Memphis, Tennessee area.

PepsiCo deploys Einride electric trucks in Memphis, TN

Einride shared details of its latest partnership with PepsiCo this morning, in which the freight EV specialist will put a fleet of its all-electric, digitally connected trucks into operations, beginning with certain routes around Memphis.

As a major food and beverage conglomerate that relies heavily on commercial fleet transportation of its goods, PepsiCo is looking to electrify certain routes in the US to significantly reduce its Scope 3 carbon emissions.

According to Einride, its fleet of trucks for PepsiCo is projected to transport over 2,500 loads annually, cover 200,000 miles of travel, and reduce approximately CO2E emissions by 143 metric tons each year. Those are encouraging numbers for sustainability but even more notable given that the initial fleet of Einride electric trucks for PepsiCo will consist of a mere five vehicles, at least to start.

Einride founder and CEO Robert Falck spoke about the new partnership:

We are proud to deploy our technology in partnership with the PepsiCo team, given their ambition to cut emissions at scale with decarbonized freight. These operations will accelerate a cleaner, more efficient supply chain, while showcasing that going electric with freight operations is not just possible, but essential.

To support the five electric trucks, Einride has installed a 700 kW private charging station at Frito-Lay’s Memphis-based carrier partner Armstrong Transportation, enabling PepsiCo drivers to recharge easily and quickly between routes.

In the US, Einride joins Tesla as an additional provider of electric trucks to PepsiCo, which began implementing close to 100 of the American automaker’s Semis into its operations in California, reporting that driver retention has been up since it started using EVs.
