Candela begins deliveries of its premium Polestar-powered flying electric boats

Late last year, Candela began production on the Candela C-8 Polestar Edition electric hydrofoil boat. Now, with the announcement of the unique vessel’s first delivery, we’re getting our closest look ever at the premium electric speedboat powered by Polestar’s electric vehicle batteries.

The Candela C-8’s powertrain, which propels the boat along while hydrofoils lift it out of the water for a smooth ride with minimal drag, is made possible by a partnership between Swedish premium boatmaker Candela and its fellow Swedish performance electric automaker Polestar. Candela’s famous hydrofoils and C-POD motors are paired with Polestar’s industry-leading batteries to create the one-of-a-kind electric watercraft.

The two companies announced the partnership last year, enabling Candela’s flying electric boats to make use of Polestar’s industry-leading EV batteries.

Those batteries have also enabled the C-8 to reach new heights — or distances — as the boat recently set a new world record for the longest distance traveled by an electric boat in 24 hours. The feat was made possible by the fast charging ability of the C-8’s Polestar batteries. For those who don’t need the extra speed from fast charging, the batteries can also be recharged using Candela’s 11 kW three-phase AC charger.

But the Polestar Edition of the Candela C-8 includes a number of premium upgrades that surpass even the standard luxury C-8s that also feature Polestar’s batteries. The Candela C-8 Polestar Edition includes a specially designed interior and upholstery that brings Polestar’s expression of Scandinavian luxury to the marine industry.

A new solid grey exterior colorway is paired with a lighter grey tone for interior areas to give the C-8 Polestar Edition a sleek and uniform look that matches the use of the same marine-certified textile everywhere, from seats, cushions and sunbeds to wall and cabin roof panels. It’s a classic Swedish colorway we’ve seen across everything from the country’s electric cars and e-boats to even e-motorcycles.

The bespoke seat upholstery, designed by Polestar’s design department, draws inspiration from the sculpted seats of the automotive world, enhancing the experience of the smooth and silent ride in an electric hydrofoil boat. To further emphasize the innovative technology and performance from Candela, the hydrofoils are painted in the iconic Swedish gold color that draws on the performance atmosphere of Polestar’s cars.

“Candela’s hydrofoil technology is a paradigm shift for sustainable performance in the marine industry. Like the first time driving an electric car, you instantly feel that this is the future when the boat ‘takes off’ – and now with the special gold details that we so proudly exhibit on our cars,” explained Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar.

“We’re extremely proud to be working with the brilliant teams at Polestar. We share a common goal of moving the world in a more sustainable direction. Design is an extremely powerful tool, as it can persuade people to make the right choice. In C-8 Polestar edition, we have the most desirable leisure boat on the market, in every respect,” added Gustav Hasselskog, CEO & founder Candela.
