Our state charges +$75 for hybrids and +$175 for EVs. It’s based on missed gas tax for assumed 12,000 miles.
Seems fair to me and I pay x2 cars. Money has to be collected somehow to pay for roads. I personally prefer flat fee to reporting miles somehow. Sure, some low mileage drivers will over pay and some high mileage drivers will under pay, but it’s a simple way to address the lack of gas tax collection to pay for roads. Taxes are never completely fair.
