Tesla held a special Model 3 Performance track day on Shanghai racetrack

Tesla organized a special Model 3 Performance track day on a racetrack in Shanghai to let people experience the full performance on the electric vehicle.

At the Shanghai International Circuit last month, Tesla invited people to experience the Model 3 Performance version in a closed environment where they could really showcase the Model 3 Performance’s capabilities.

It looks like Tesla might have been inspired by the Tesla Corsa events.

In an interview during the second installment of Tesla Corsa earlier this year, Ben Schaffer, CEO of Unplugged Performance and the organizer of the event, described the idea behind Tesla Corsa:

“Tesla Corsa is basically an opportunity for Tesla owners who daily drive their cars to go on the race track and experience the full dynamic of their cars in a safe environment.”

Tesla Corsa is not directly affiliated with the automaker, but they gave them a heads up and the company was there filming the event at the Buttonwillow Raceway in January.

A year into the project, they have already had three events – all in California.

Schaffer expressed interest in expanding Tesla Corsa to hold similar events around the world, but it looks like Tesla might have beaten him to it with this similar event in Shanghai.

Tesla released some images from the event (pictures by Tesla via Jay in Shanghai on Twitter):

Electrek’s Take

As we suggested after reporting on the Tesla Corsa event, Tesla should be all over this.

It’s a great way for owners to experience the full potential of their vehicles in a safe environment and it’s a great way for Tesla to showcase those vehicles.

Tesla could also get some useful feedback from the more hardcore drivers at the event like Unplugged Performance was doing at Tesla Corsa for the Tesla performance modifications.
