Tesla is bringing a ‘surprise’ car to Grand Basel’s selective ‘automotive masterpieces’ show

Tesla, who is not often seen at car shows, is apparently heading to the new and selective Grand Basel show about ‘automotive masterpieces’ next week.

We learned that they plan to showcase a ‘surprise’ vehicle at the event.

Grand Basel describes itself as ‘the ultimate show for automotive masterpieces.’

They wrote on their website:

“Grand Basel showcases a limited number of carefully-selected, top-of-the-range automobiles – not just the most dignified and luxurious classic cars, but also one-off contemporary editions and technically-advanced concept cars. These automotive masterpieces are carefully selected from the applications received, with special consideration for each car’s cultural meaning, conceptual innovation, condition, provenance, rarity and value.”

Tesla got in with a mystery car and it started a lottery for some select owners to win invites to the event:

Here’s the invite sent to owners via our friends Finish blog Auto-Hullut and verified by Electrek:

Tesla plans to announce the winners of the lottery for the tickets on September 1.

The Grand Basel show will take place from September 6th-9th in Basel, Switzerland.

Electrek’s Take

If I had to guess based on the image, I’d say that this will be the car show debut of the next-gen Roadster.

It also makes sense with the nature of the Grand Basel show, but I am sure that Tesla being cryptic about the “surprise” vehicle is going to launch some speculation.

I can’t see it being anything else than the Roadster since Tesla doesn’t unveil new products at car shows and prefers to launch new products at its own events.

Therefore, people should temper their expectations, but it should still be a fun rare occasion for people to see the new Roadster in person, if it’s indeed the vehicle that they are bringing to the event.
