Following up after his interview with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Youtuber Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD) has now released a new video where he walks through Tesla’s Fremont factory with Musk.
Tesla offers factory tours for owners, VIPs, and sometimes the media.
If you have never been on a Fremont factory tour, I highly recommend the video.
We don’t learn much new information, but the video does a great job at making you feel like you are walking through the factory with Brownlee and Musk.
Here is the video:
Musk did say that Model 3 production speed has now increased to “about 1 mph”, which is faster than the Model S and Model X line, which is where they were walking through during their tour.
The CEO likes to use the speed at which a vehicle travels through the assembly as a metric to evaluate the progress of production.
He previously half-jokingly said that he hopes that with future improvements in automation, they will be able to make the car move so fast that “you would need a strobe light to see them move the line”.
In the meantime, Tesla’s production is still extremely reliant on manual labor as Musk explained in the video.
They have about 10,000 people working at the Fremont factory to produce vehicles at a rate of about 7,000 units per week.
