Here’s a Tesla Model 3 that promotes climate change awareness with a wacky wrap

We have seen some wacky wrap jobs on Tesla vehicles before and this one is certainly one of those, but it also interestingly promotes climate change awareness – though you need to know the story to understand that.

This Model 3 is owned by Mark Hanson, who describes himself as an introvert, which makes it weird for his vehicle to have quite an extravagant look, but he has a good reason for it.

The wrap is based on a visualization of the average global temperature over the course of 100+ years with each stripe representing the temperature of a single year, ordered from the earliest available data to now.

It is inspired by the work of Professor Ed Hawkins at the University of Reading in the UK based on the Met Office Hadley Centre observations datasets.

He produced similar images for specific locations on his blog, but the one used by Hanson on his Model 3 is for the global temperature from 1850-2017:

Inspired by meteorologists wearing ties based on the visualization, Hanson decided to do the same with his Model 3.

He explained on his blog:

“After seeing that story about the meteorologists and the graphic, I thought that was a wonderful way to raise awareness as well as starting conversations.”

He worked with Tint Pros – Platinum Auto Wraps to develop the wrap. Here are a few pictures from the job:

The final product is certainly good to catch attention, but you need to know some background in order to truly understand the meaning. This is why Hanson put this note in the window of his Model 3:

What’s the Story??

The wrap on this car is inspired by Professor Ed Hawkin’s ‘Warming Stripes’ graphic.

The graphic shows each year’s average global temperature, between 1850-2017, as a color, blue for cooler than average, red for warmer. The deeper the color, the further from the average.
