FLO is launching its high-quality electric vehicle charging stations in the US – $200 discount

FLO, a leading electric vehicle charging station manufacturer based in Canada, is coming to the US.

We are partnering with them for the pre-launch during which you can get a $200 discount on their home charging stations.

FLO has taken over an important part of the EV charging space in Canada.

First, it focused on public charging stations, both level 2 and level 3 fast-chargers, and built important charging networks across the country.

The company leveraged its expertise making those stations to start producing home charging stations.

With their experience building long-lasting public chargers that need to withstand frequent use and the harsh Canadian winters, they ventured into building high-end and robust home chargers.

You won’t find any plastic on FLO’s charging stations. The casing is entirely made of NEMA 4X aluminum.

There are two versions of the FLO’s charging station: the smart X5 version and the standard G5.

The smart X5 is connected to the internet which enables a ‘PowerSharing’ feature to allow 2 FLO Home X5 to be installed on the same breaker and it can automatically charge on a schedule to limit or shut down output current during peak periods.

The home charger can also receive software updates for future improvements.

As for the G5, it comes with the same quality, but it doesn’t have the connected features.

They both feature a J1772 universal connector, 240 V – 30 A – 7.2 kW charge rate, and a 25-foot cable that remains flexible in all weather conditions. The stations are officially rated to work in -40 °F to 122 °F temperature (-40 °C to 50 °C).

The quality doesn’t come cheap. The smart X5’s regular price is $1,195 and the G5 costs $995.

FLO is backing its quality with a solid 5-year warranty and Electrek partnered with the company for the month-long pre-launch in the US which is starting now.

You can get a $200 discount on FLO’s stations by pre-ordering via Electrek. By reserving now, FLO will send you an Electrek promotional code when the home charging stations start shipping in the US later this summer.

Electrek’s Take

Full disclosure: we do get a commission on the stations ordered through us.

We partnered with FLO because they are already a trusted brand in Canada with thousands of stations already deployed.

The focus on quality is also important and a welcomed change compared to some other offerings on the market. Most importantly, the company is willing to back up its quality with a 5-year warranty.

We are aware that the quality doesn’t come cheap which is why this $200 discount during the pre-launch is a great opportunity in our opinion.

If you are planning to get an electric car later this year, it might be worth getting your home charging solution sorted out right now.

Of course, the J1772 universal connector will work with any EV on the market right now and on those coming to market soon, like the Audi e-tron quattro and the Jaguar I-PACE, which are both coming by the end of the year.

If you have a Tesla vehicle, Tesla’s Wall Connector is generally a better solution due to the company’s proprietary connector.

But if you want to play it really safe in case you end up also having a non-Tesla EV in the future, you can go with a universal station, like FLO’s home chargers, since Tesla supplies a J1772 adapter.
