Tesla announces new round of referral program

Now a few years into the program, it has become clear that Tesla’s referral program is an important part of the automaker’s sales model as it has been renewed every quarter.

This time, Tesla even announced the new round of referral program ahead of the end of the current round.

Tesla launched the latest round of the referral program in February with a few new prizes and benefits for new buyers.

It is set to run until the end of April, but Tesla has already updated its referral program website for a new round of the program running from May 1 to July 15, which is a new date range for the program.

They released the new awards for the new round, but there are the same awards with only a different sequence of eligibility:

1 to 2 Qualifying Referrals:
Owners can choose either of the options below for each of their first and second referrals.

  • Signature Black Wall Connector
This matte black Wall Connector is exclusive to the Referral Program and includes an etch of Elon’s signature. This award will start shipping in June.
  • Founders Series Tesla Model S for Kids
Share the Tesla experience with your kids, with this miniature drivable electric Model S – including working headlights, a sound system, and a charge port, just like yours.

3 Qualifying Referrals:
Early Access Token for Solar Roof
Be one of the first to get Solar Roof with this early-access token for priority scheduling of a Solar Roof installation. If you do not use this award, the token may be given to a friend.

4 Qualifying Referrals:
Owners can choose either of the options below for their fourth referral.

  • 21” Arachnid Wheels for Model S or 22” Turbine Wheels for Model X
Enhance the performance of your Tesla with these exclusive wheels.
  • One Week with Model S or Model X
Experience a new Model S or Model X for one week—at home or on the road. If you do not use this award, this exclusive test drive may be given to a friend.

5 Qualifying Referrals:

  • Tesla Unveiling Invitation Experience an official unveiling event. Owners who reach five referral orders will be invited to a future unveiling event. Your VIP invitation will be valid for you and one guest.
  • Founders Series Powerwall 2 Store energy for future use and provide backup power with this red, limited-production Powerwall 2 home battery. Wait for Powerwall to become available for installation in your area, or take a $7,800 CAD (not available in the US) credit to use towards vehicle accessories, service, or a new car. Credits are valid for 12 months from the referral delivery date.

It looks like they put the order to more accurately reflect the value of each award even though it’s hard to estimate a value for some of those.

The Powerwall 2 is now last for 5 referrals along with an invitation to a Tesla unveiling event and the solar roof token dropped a few positions.

As for the rewards for the new buyers, which are currently unlimited Supercharging and $500 in Tesla credit for the first person being referred, it’s not clear if they are remaining the same as they list them as ending by the end of the month.

Update: Tesla confirmed that free Supercharger network access will remain the referral program benefit for new buyers, but the $500 in service and gear credit for the first referral is going away.

Electrek’s Take

Tesla has been saying that the unlimited Supercharging will end for over a year now so there’s always the chance that it will end after the end of the current round, but I’m not sure what other incentives Tesla could incorporate at this point.

If I had to guess, I’d say it will remain unchanged.

What other awards and referral incentives do you think Tesla should incorporate into the program? Let us know in the comment section below.
