A closer look at Tesla’s new ‘Twin Turbine Wheels’

Last month, Tesla updated the Model S’ online design studio to add a new 21″ wheels with an updated version of its Turbine wheel design.

Now Tesla made the wheels available in its aftermarket store with new pictures – giving us a closer look at the new design.

Tesla has been putting a lot of effort into designing its wheels in order to find a balance between aesthetics and efficiency, which can result in a longer range.

Back in 2016, Tesla introduced new stock wheels for the vehicle called Slipstream wheels. As we mentioned in our report on comments about the Model 3 aero wheels by the automaker’s former head of aerodynamics, the new wheels have been designed for aerodynamic performance.

We now learn that the new wheels are called ‘Twin Turbine Wheels’ as the automaker added them on its accessory website with new images:

Tesla describes the $6,000 wheel and tire package on the website:

“With a visually striking design, the Tesla Twin Turbine wheels offer a more enjoyable driving experience by improving handling and acceleration. Michelin Pilot Super Sport high-performance tires come with the package to maximize the performance of your vehicle.”

The automaker is still selling the original 21″ Turbine wheels on its website, but the winter tire package is now available with more than just the 19″ Slipstream wheels.
