AeroVironment unveils slick new TurboDX electric vehicle charging solution

At this time of year with CES in Las Vegas, we generally get to see some cool new electric vehicle charging solutions.

This year AeroVironment unveiled TurboDX, the company’s latest electric vehicle charging solution for a wide range of applications.

AeroVironment built its latest connector to work for anything from a residential application to a workplace or commercial utilization. They also obtained American, European, and Chinese certifications.

Ken Karklin, vice president and general manager of AeroVironment’s Efficient Energy Systems business segment, described the new device:

“TurboDX is loaded with advanced, user-friendly features to ensure a hassle-free, smart-charging experience that meets the unique requirements and needs of commercial, workplace, utility and residential customers around the world. TurboDX can be easily configured to address the specific needs of employers, landlords, individual homeowners and property managers who need a flexible solution for maximizing the charging demands of their EV driving staff, tenants and patrons.”

The design is slick and minimalist with a cast aluminum enclosure “designed to work under even the harshest conditions,” according to the company.

It is also equipped with features like Bluetooth-enabled access control and triple, dual or quad installation that allows more cars to charge simultaneously.

AeroVironment already started shipping the TurboDX for commercial and industrial customers and it will be available from retailers and on Amazon by the end of the quarter starting at $469. It will be available in both 16- and 32-amp versions (240-volts) with the option for 15-foot or 25-foot cords.

Electrek’s Take

We have been a fan of AeroVironment’s TurboCord for a while now when it comes to mobile connectors, but the TurboDX seems like a welcomed addition to the line up for stationary solutions.

It’s certainly a big upgrade from AeroVironment’s previous solution, aesthetically speaking.

As for pricing, it seems to be competitive with other level 2 J1772 charge connectors, but we would need to see pricing for the 32A option to know for sure.
