Two recurring questions among the more than 400,000 Tesla Model 3 reservation holders are “what colors will be available?” and “what will be the ‘something special’ that CEO Elon Musk promised to early reservation holders?”
A render of the Model 3 in Tesla’s official Supercharger announcement yesterday sparked rumors with implications for both questions.
As seen in the cropped image above, Tesla placed the render of a Model 3 front and center in the render of its new Supercharger station – among other renders of the Model S.
It could be just a random render with a random color, but it’s front and center position has sparked speculations in the comments and on forums about the significance if it was placed purposely – and ahead of the Model 3 launch in just a few months.
Considering we have only seen two colors on the Model 3 release candidates, blue and black, any other color, of course, leads to speculation about potentially making it to production. The one in the render was red with a tint of orange. It could be similar to the red seen any previous official promo pictures from Tesla. Here’s a side-by-side”
The other speculation is that it could be a hint at a special color for early reservation holders.
With the Model S and X, Tesla opened up 1,000 ‘Signature reservation’ spots per market for a $40,000 deposit (versus $5,000 for a regular reservation). Those vehicles had a special ‘Signature’ badge and could be customized with Tesla’s exclusive ‘Signature red’ color.
Last year, Musk confirmed that unlike Tesla’s previous models, there will not be any ‘Signature reservation’ option for the Model 3, but when asked if ‘Signature red’ will be available for early reservation holders, he said that “there will be something special”:
there will be something special

It doesn’t mean that it will be a color for the Model 3, but it’s still a possibility.
