Unboxing of Tesla’s new $500 ‘Wall Connector’ [Video]

We reported last week that following the unveiling of the updated Model S and its new high amperage charger, Tesla released a new cheaper and upgraded ‘Tesla Wall Connector’. Despite being listed as “currently unavailable”, it seems like Tesla has already shipped at least one as the first unboxing video is already available.

The main differentiating feature of the new charger is its price, starting now at $500 instead of $750.

Something we missed during our first report and that is now clear with the video, the new Wall Connector features the same new push button on the handle as the most recent Superchargers.

Tesla also added a new Power sharing feature, which it describes as an optimized solution for customers with multiple Tesla vehicles – something that will be particularly useful now that Tesla is ramping up production of the Model X given that an important portion of the buyers were already Model S owners.

Tesla describes the feature on its website:

Power sharing feature that allows a single circuit breaker to be connected and shared, servicing up to 4 Wall Connectors – an optimized solution for customers with multiple Tesla vehicles.
