Switzerland was Tesla’s breakout European market last year and it continues to be an impressive market for the company. Deliveries were up 213% year-over-year at the end of 2015 and now we learn that Model S deliveries are up 117% in the first quarter 2016 versus the same period last year, according to registration data.
Tesla’s all-electric sedan not only outsells other electric cars and plug-ins in the country, but also gas-powered cars in the same segment.
During the first quarter 2016, Tesla delivered 430 Model S’s in Switzerland, more than in bigger neighboring countries like Germany and France.
Tesla is trying to replicate the Model S’ success in the country to other markets in Europe. Last year, the company appointed its head of sales in Switzerland, Jochen Rudat, to lead Tesla’s team in Germany, where sales are up, but not at the level Tesla CEO Elon Musk hoped for.
Here’s a chart of Model S registrations in Switzerland over the past 3 years:

Love the data – thanks!
Any chance you could change to a simple overlaid line chart? The bar chart is a bit hard to read.
Again, thank you for your great work.
Where does this accurate data come from? I mean, I thought Tesla didn’t release a monthly number of their deliveries, especially by country.
It is from the registration data in Switzerland:

The image caption (Tesla Model S, Zurich, 2013) is a little misleading. I suppose the picture was taken in the canton of Zurich (and not in the city of Zurich), but how many people know that Zurich is also a canton? How many people do even know what a canton is?
I’m from Zurich. The image is almost certainly not taken in the canton… Zurich canton is situated in the lowlands of Switzerland and has some country side with hills but nothing like the jagged mountains behind the car in the image above. Image location looks more like an Alpine valley to me
I know the city and some part of the canton, but surely not all of it, so I supposed that maybe that picture could have been taken somewhere in the canton. But if you showed me the picture without mentioning Zurich, I also would have located it in some Alpine region of Switzerland.
