Fidelity increases its stake in Tesla Motors (TSLA) to over 10% of the company

In a SEC filling published this morning, Tesla confirmed that Fidelity increased its stake in the company to just over 10% ownership.

Fidelity (FMR LLC), the second largest largest mutual fund and financial services group in the world, increased its total holdings in the automaker to 13,341,827 shares worth about $2.8 billion.

Its percentage of ownership went from 9.15% to 10.186% of the company’s common shares.

With its latest investment in the company, Fidelity remains the biggest institutional shareholder, while CEO Elon Musk is the biggest single investor with about 27% of the company’s stocks.

Musk increased its stake in the company last year during Tesla’s most recent secondary stock offering, which raised $738.3 million. Musk contributed $20 million.

Fidelity holds shares of several of Musk’s companies. The fund also holds about 10% of SolarCity and it participated in SpaceX’s latest $1 billion round of investment led by Google.
