While Beijing completely shutdown today after issuing its first ever ‘Red Alert’ over smog, the city also announced the opening of an impressive new electric bus charging complex in the Chaoyang district. The station features 25 chargers at 360 kW and 5 chargers at 90 kW, making it one of the most powerful charging station for electric vehicles in the world.Based on the power output of the chargers, it appears they are running four separate 90 kW chargers in parallel for a total charge rate of 360 kW.
The station is one among many in Beijing, which is in the process of converting its natural gas hybrid bus fleet to fully electric, but it is the largest according to the city. The stations are equipped with Microvast’s ultra-fast charging technology, which are charging BAIC Foton Motor’s electric buses.
State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), the largest electric utility in the country (and the world), is in charge of building the network of charging station.
2 to 3 times a day per bus, the driver comes to the station for a break while staff plug-in the charger and within 10-15 minutes the electric bus’s battery pack is at maximum operating capacity and ready to go again. SGCC is already working to expand the network to support more bus routes.
