H55, a spinoff of solar-powered flight project Solar Impulse, announced it has successfully completed a flight with an all-electric two-seater airplane which it sees as a “stepping stone” for electric VTOLs and flying taxi development.
Solar Impulse, the same company that flew 26,000 miles (40,000 km) without one drop of fuel, has just recently been on record stating their plans to develop and launch a solar-powered satellite that would provide affordable accessibility for Wi-Fi and GSM connections to the masses by leveraging the solar and battery tech in their plane.
As I mentioned a couple of days ago, there are a handful of exciting events happening this week: the opening of the first phase of the Gigafactory, India announcing its new ‘solar zones‘ project, and now we have a new development, this time, coming from Solar Impulse.
This company, whose operations and team is based out of Switzerland, has racked up an astonishing 42,000 km (about 26,000 miles) flown on their airplane that is powered exclusively by solar panels in a multi-leg excursion.
