The Hyundai IONIQ 7 is coming as a big sibling to the IONIQ 5

If the IONIQ 5 isn’t big enough, Hyundai is preparing to introduce the IONIQ 7, set to fill the gap between the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9.

What we know about the Hyundai IONIQ 7

While the IONIQ 9 was set to fill the spot, initially called the “SEVEN” Concept, Hyundai decided the three-row SUV was a better fit as its flagship model, like the Kia EV9.

Hyundai offers the IONIQ 5, which is about the size of a Tesla Model Y, and then there’s the three-row EV9, but what if you wanted something in between?

Soon, you’ll have the option. Hyundai is launching two new electric SUVs as it expands into new segments. According to Auto Express, they will go on sale as the IONIQ 7 and IONIQ 4. One will sit below the IONIQ 5, and the other will be a middle option, positioned under the IONIQ 9.

The IONIQ 7 is expected to be closer in size to the IONIQ 5, but with a more traditional boxy SUV design.

It will be more of a family hauler with two- and three-row seating options. The IONIQ 7 is also expected to offer single- and dual-motor powertrains.

Although Hyundai has yet to confirm any details, the IONIQ 7 will likely offer a WLTP range of at least 400 miles. It will likely also use an 800V architecture, like the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9, for fast charging.

Given the IONIQ 5 is 183.3″ long, 74.4″ wide, and 63″ tall, with a 118.1″ wheelbase, the IONIQ 7 will be slightly bigger, but with a more traditional SUV profile.

It’s hard to imagine Hyundai not equipping it with its new Pleos Connect infotainment system, which made its European debut in the IONIQ 3. In the US, the new 2027 Tucson is Hyundai’s first vehicle with the new setup.

The IONIQ 4 is en route as well

The IONIQ 4, on the other hand, will be a B-segment SUV, a twin of the Kia EV3. It will slot between the IONIQ 3 and IONIQ 5, with a more traditional SUV design.

Like the IONIQ 7, it will feature Hyundai’s Pleos infotainment system. The IONIQ 4 will be available with similar battery pack options to the IONIQ 3.

Hyundai offers the IONIQ 3 with two battery packs: 42 kWh and 61 kWh, providing WLTP ranges of up to 214 miles and 308 miles, respectively.

When it arrives, the Hyundai IONIQ 4 will likely start at around £25,000 ($33,000) in the UK, or slightly more than the IONIQ 3.

While those in the US will likely miss out on the IONIQ 4, given Kia just launched the EV3 (check out our review), there’s hope Hyundai will bring the IONIQ 7 to America as a big sibling to the IONIQ 5.

In the US, the IONIQ 5 uses either a 63 kWh or 84 kWh battery, providing EPA ranges of up to 245 miles and 318 miles.

The 2027 Hyundai IONIQ 5 starts at $35,250, so the IONIQ 7 would likely be a bit more, at around $40,000 to $45,000.

We should learn more soon, with both set to launch in the next 12 to 18 months. Check back soon for updates.
