You can now customize Hyundai’s off-road electric SUV and test it out… virtually.
Hyundai takes its off-road EV SUV to the virtual world
Remember the Crater Concept that Hyundai revealed at last year’s LA Auto Show? The off-road electric SUV concept was created at Hyundai America Technical Center in Irvine, California.
Although it’s just a concept, Hyundai said the Crater was a testament to making future XRT vehicles more capable, more functional, and more emotional than ever.
The off-road electric SUV concept offers a sneak peek at the “next evolution” of Hyundai Motor’s upcoming XRT models.
With a high-riding, boxy stance, 33″ off-road tires, and plenty of ground clearance, the Crater Concept looked ready to tackle any terrain.
Now, you can test it out for yourself. At least, in the virtual world. Hyundai’s off-road electric SUV made its virtual debut in The Crew Motorfest, the first time a Korean auto brand has been featured.

Ubisoft Ivory Tower developed the open-world racing game. In the game, you can take Hyundai’s Crater Concept off-roading, create your own custom vehicle, and even pull or recover objects with a new Winch feature.
Hyundai first introduced XRT, or “Xtreme Rugged Terrain,” in the US as a specialized off-road trim. It now offers several XRT and XRT Pro vehicles, such as the IONIQ 5 XRT, Santa Cruz XRT, and most recently, the Tucson XRT Pro.

The company plans to expand the XRT branding to new models and additional markets. Hyundai said the Crater’s virtual debut is part of its efforts to connect with buyers through gaming.
While the Crater is only a concept, Hyundai does plan to launch its first body-on-frame vehicle in the US based on the Boulder Concept. It will be a midsize electric pickup due out in 2030.
