BYD launched an aggressive sales campaign in the UK, its “biggest-ever,” offering over $3,000 off select plug-in and electric vehicles.
BYD kicks off UK sales promo with big discounts
Electrified vehicles, including plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), are driving record growth in the UK new car market.
In August, over 28,000 BEVs and more than 13,700 PHEVs were registered in the UK, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), accounting for 29.8% of the overall market.
Through the first eight months of 2026, BEVs represented 25.6% of new car sales in the UK, a record high, but still below the 33% mandate.
China’s BYD has been a driving force in the market. Since launching its first vehicle in March 2023, BYD has registered more than 110,000 vehicles in the UK.
Through August, BYD’s registrations have surged by 98%, with over 48,000 vehicles registered in the UK. BYD now accounts for 3.48% of the UK car market, up from just 1.92% during the same period last year.

With several new highly anticipated vehicles rolling out, BYD looks to build momentum into the end of the year.
On Friday, BYD launched what it’s calling its “biggest-ever sales event” across its range of plug-in (DM-i) and electric vehicles with savings of up to £2,500 ($3,300).

The Dolphin G DM-i, BYD’s “Super Hybrid” specifically designed for Europe, goes on sale in the UK this month. BYD is offering leases as low as £250 ($330) per month with a £1,999 ($2,700) deposit and 1.9% APR. That’s for the base Active trim, which starts at £23,990 ($32,500) in the UK.
The Atto 2 DM-i Active, its crossover SUV sibling, is available from £274 ($370) per month with a £1,999 ($2,700) customer deposit and 0.9% APR.

BYD’s Seal U DM-i, which is among the UK’s best-selling plug-in SUVs, is now available from £349 ($470) per month with a £1,999 ($2,700) customer deposit and 0% APR.
Several EVs are also on sale right now in the UK, including the Dolphin Surf, starting at £210.67 ($285) per month, the Dolphin (£307.54/mo), and Sealion 07 (£474.89/mo).
Meanwhile, the savings won’t last long. BYD is only running the promo from September 10 to September 21.

BYD is expanding its lineup in the UK with its first pickup, the Shark, and its first 7-seat SUV, the Ti 7. And that’s not including its luxury sub-brand, Denza, which is also going on the offensive in the UK and Europe with a slate of new vehicles arriving.
The company said that, with a broad range of plug-in and electric vehicles, ranging from small city cars to SUVs and pickups, it will offer something for every driver.
