The first Tesla Powerwall for residential use in Australia has reportedly been installed in a Sydney suburb this week. Nick Pfitzner was one of the first to reserve an installation with Natural Solar, an official Tesla Energy distributor, and the Pfitzner family finally received their home battery pack this week.
Nick discussed his new purchase with local news:
“I have been following Tesla since it has been doing stuff with the electric cars because renewable energy is something I am very keen on. When I saw Tesla was rolling out the Powerwall, I quickly paid my deposit and was ecstatic to find I was going to be the first person in Australia to have one installed residentially. I got to be king of the nerds for one day.”
The king of the nerds got a 7 kWh daily charging Powerwall, which Natural Solar offers bundled with solar panels and an inverter. The company says packages start from $13,000 AUD ($9,200 USD) after government incentives. It’s a little more expensive than the $3,000 wholesale price of the Powerwall, but homeowners get the most out of the system when combined with a solar installation.
Energy storage products, like Tesla’s Powerwall and Powerpacks, are expected to be quite popular in Australia where electricity prices are among the highest in the world and where there’s abundant sunlight.
Australia already has the world’s highest per capita penetration of rooftop solar technology with 15% of households using solar for a total of 1.5 million households across the country.
Tesla is distributing its home battery packs in Australia through Origin, the largest electric utility in the country, and solar installer Natural Solar.

Someone should tell those naysaying, solar-strangling throwbacks in America about the rooftop solar uptake Down Under. 15% in an advanced country is HUGE
After seeing all the war that the monopolistic Nevada Utility NV (with the help of their very friendly PUC regulator) had done to rooftop solar panels, I’m very surprised by that: “Tesla is distributing its home battery packs in Australia through Origin, the largest electric utility in the country,..”. So the largest Australian electric utility want to suicide or…are they wisely betting in a better future for Australian consumers and them? Sure, a better one than the greedy NV utility wants for Nevada Consumers.
